Rock River Dental News

Dear Patients of Rock River Dental,

What a crazy year this has been!  I know all of us are looking forward to getting a fresh start to the new year and saying goodbye to 2020.

I want to thank all of you for your patience and kindness throughout the year.   After being shut down, it took several months to get caught back up to get everyone back to their routine appointments.  We are so thankful that you have continued to trust us in caring for you and keeping you safe during your visits with us. We have had many compliments and kind words of gratitude for our service. It has made us feel good to know that our efforts are worthwhile as we continually strive to go above and beyond for you.  So thank you for choosing us!  I always say that we have the best patients around, and that is the truth!

As many of you know, Lu officially retired on December 31st. She has been a mainstay at our office and has helped so many of you work out financial arrangements and give you her best knowledge about your insurance coverage and help those who don’t have insurance to join our dental savings plan.  Lu has been with me since I started out of dental school, working as an associate in 1999 and then taking over the practice in 2000.  She had worked with the previous owners since 1972.  I can’t say enough about Lu’s kind heart and her years of dedication and service to Rock River Dental.  It will take quite some time to get used to her not being at her desk, and she will be greatly missed.  We wish her all the best in her retirement!

Our team will continue to help you the way that Lu always did.  Connie has transitioned from dental assisting to Lu’s position.  She has excellent dental knowledge not only clinically but from an administrative standpoint as well.  Courtney, who has had many years of service at the front desk, will continue to help you with your financial arrangements. Julie, our newest team member, will also be able to assist you with your needs.

I am so grateful for the hard-working team we have and am so proud that we can provide you with outstanding care.  Thank you once again for choosing us as your dental care providers and being a part of our family.

We wish you a happy and healthy 2021 and look forward to seeing you again soon. Happy New Year!

All my best,

Dr. Leslie Showalter

What’s Been Happening at RRD?

Have you seen the meme about 2020 that says: “2020 is a unique Leap Year. It has 29 days in February, 300 days in March, 5 years in April!” Yes, it has been quite a year, but we did manage to have some fun and celebrate many special people on our team!

Natalie (11 years) and Jamie (1 year) both celebrated October Anniversaries. Both of these ladies bring so much to our patients and our team!

In the spirit of giving, despite the pandemic, we were able to hold three of our favorite events- Halloween Candy Buy Back, Give A Vet A Smile Day, and our Annual Coat Drive.

We were able to ship five boxes of candy to our troops overseas through Operation Gratitude. Thank you to the kiddos who generously donated their candy!

Every year it gives us great pleasure to offer dental care to our veterans. This year we were able to help three veterans who were very much in need of dental care. We thank them for their past service, and it is our honor to give back to them!

Every year our Coat Drive gets bigger and bigger because of YOUR generosity. This year, we donated over 100 coats to the Jefferson County Foster Care Program and The Community Action Coalition! Thank you!

With so many going through hardships this year, we decided to hold our first-ever Food Drive. We continue to be in awe of the generosity of our patients and our community! With YOUR help, we were able to fill some shelves and gift $450 to the Fort Atkinson Food Pantry! Thank you!!

December brought both good and sad. The GOOD – Our office was filled with lots of goodies as we celebrated Dr. Showalter, Brooke, Courtney, and Jamie’s birthdays!

Rock River Dental earned Invisalign Gold Status Plus! What does that mean for you? That means that you get the best of the best when it comes to Invisalign treatment at Rock River Dental! We are the only dental clinic with the Gold Plus status in our area!

The SAD- We bid farewell to Lu as she is off to enjoy her retirement. The office will be a bit quieter without Lu’s infectious laugh. We will miss her dearly but are so happy for her and Doug to finally enjoy retirement together.

Several dental issues can negatively affect your oral health and compromise the quality of your beautiful smile. These dental problems may range from tooth decay and cavities to gum disease and even permanent teeth loss.

Dental health issues can keep you continually going in and out of any dental clinic near you, looking for solutions to remedy these issues. When you are suffering from a pressing dental problem, you will spend lots of time and money at our dentist near you to find a remedy that will prevent it from developing into a dental complication.

So how do you stay ahead of dental issues? How do you safeguard both your pocket and smile from the wrath of dental problems? The answer is simple, opt for preventive dentistry near you.

Preventive dentistry in Atkinson, WI, has proved to be the key to keeping preventable dental issues at bay and safeguarding the smiles of all our patients who visit our dentist in Fort Atkinson, WI, at our dental clinic near you.

What is Preventive Dentistry?

Preventive dentistry is ideally a form or kind of dentistry, which involves utilizing dental care practices that are designed to maintain and promote good oral health in patients. Preventive dental procedures are carried out to ensure that your gums and teeth stay disease-free, strong, and healthy at all times.

Preventive dentistry in Atkinson, WI, mainly involves combining several dental practices interchangeably to ensure that all aspects of your oral health are taken care of. These dental practices may range from going for regular dental visits to practicing an excellent dental hygiene routine.

These dental practices are geared towards preventing cavities, gum diseases, dentine erosion, and any other future dental issue or complication. For preventive dentistry near you to be effective, it has to be consistently practiced for years.

Types of Preventive Dentistry Practices

There are many types of preventive dentistry practices that can go a long way in safeguarding and improving your dental health. These may include;

  • Diligently Practicing Good Oral Hygiene
  • You need to do two key things daily to ensure that your gums and teeth remain clean, healthy, and strong. These two measures are diligently brushing and flossing your teeth.

You need to brush your teeth at least two times a day for two minutes and floss your teeth once every day to keep dental problems away. Brushing and flossing your teeth every day helps prevent plaque accumulation, which promotes tooth decay and gum disease.

In addition to this, you should rinse your mouth with some antibacterial mouthwash to ensure that your oral cavity is clean and bacteria-free.

  • See Your Dentist Regularly
  • This is another way of safeguarding your oral health. You should see our dentist near you after every six months and not only when facing a pressing dental problem.

These regular checkups enable our dentist Whitewater to keep a close eye on your dental health and to identify any arising dental issue in good time before it cascades into a significant problem.

  • Do Not Skip Out of the Professional Cleaning Sessions
  • They may look like they are unnecessary but believe it or not; these cleaning sessions do more than you may think. Irrespective of how diligently you brush and floss your teeth, there are still some hard to reach areas that can go unnoticed during your hygiene sessions.

These areas become a site for plaque build-up, and consequently, gum disease or tooth decay may occur. A thorough professional cleaning session can get to these areas and deal with the plaque build-up.

  • Keep Tabs on What You Eat
  • If your diet is packed with starchy and sugary foods, there is a high chance you may face dental decay or enamel erosion. Your daily diet should consist of lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and enough calcium as it is essential for the proper development and maintenance of healthy teeth and bones.

If you would love to begin safeguarding your dental health and smile, do not hesitate to contact us. At Rock River Dental, we are all about airing on the side of prevention.
