What is Oral Hygiene?
Oral hygiene month is the practice of keeping your teeth free from decay and your other mouth structures free from infection. This includes regular brushing and flossing. It is also recommended that you get a dental exam and cleaning at least two times a year.
4 Reasons Why Oral Hygiene is Important
The primary goal of good oral hygiene is to prevent plaque buildup that may cause tooth decay or gum infection.

Your mouth serves as the door to the internal parts of your body. The mouth also can show signs of other systemic diseases. Diseases such as Diabetes can sometimes be detected by the presence of mouth lesions or gum infections. Diseases such as periodontal disease can increase the risk of heart disease. Chronic inflammation in the mouth may affect many parts of the body including artery inflammation.

Keeping your teeth and mouth clean can help prevent the risks of some health complications. The best way to do this is to brush twice a day, floss and schedule regular dental checkups every six months.

Tooth loss is the most common problem for children and adults. One of the most common reasons for tooth loss is poor dental hygiene. - Rinse your mouth with water after meals or chew sugarless gum.

- Protect your teeth with a mouthguard when playing contact sports
- Use a night guard when you tend to grind your teeth during your sleep.
- Schedule a preventative dental care appointment for your family every 6 months.

Coat Drive – Our coat drive is happening NOW through November 5th. Please drop off new or gently used coats and winter gear at our office during regular business hours. Coats will be delivered to the Jefferson Co. Foster Care Program and The Community Space in Whitewater. Be sure to drop your name in the raffle for a Professional Series Sonicare! Give Veterans A Smile Month – If you are a veteran or know of a veteran in need of dental care who otherwise could not afford it, Rock River Dental will be providing comprehensive exams, x-rays, and dental cleanings free of charge for veterans during the month of November. Dr. Showalter, Dr. Trimbell, and their team will also provide treatment for each veteran’s most urgent needs. Advance appointments are required and are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please call to reserve your spot.
Food Drive – We will be hosting our annual Food Drive starting November 15th – December 3rd. Please drop off your non-perishable food items at our office during normal business hours. Food items will be distributed to local food pantries to stock their shelves before the holidays. Rock River Dental will match donated items pound for pound! Be sure to drop your name in our drawing to win a Professional Series Sonicare! Together we can make a difference!
